Meet the SMI Staff
Joan Boesel MPT, OCS, CSCS
Joan Boesel is the co-owner of Sports Medicine Institute with over 14 years of experience in orthopedics and sports medicine. Her professional memberships include: The American Physical Therapy Association, The Association of Surgical Shoulder and Elbow Therapists, and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. A graduate of the Ola Grimsby Institute for Manual Therapy, her area of expertise is manual therapy for all body parts. Joan is a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist. Joan was a member of the Oregon State University Women's Softball Team and specializes in shoulder and elbow injuries to throwing athletes.
Peter Morris MPT, OCS, CSCS
Peter is co-owner of Sports Medicine Institute and a graduate from Loma Linda University. He is a Board Certified Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association, a member of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Therapy. Peter is currently the Vice Chairman of the Orange County District of the APTA
Amy Biersch PT, DPT, CSCS
Amy graduated from University of the Pacific with her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in 2005 and has been working at SMI since. Prior to that, she received her BS in Exercise Physiology at CSU, Chico and played first base on the softball team for four years. Amy is a member of the both APTA and NSCA. She is also currently designing an ACL prevention program for the female athlete that we will be implementing shortly. In her free time, Amy enjoys watching baseball games and beating her co-workers in tennis.
Nicholas Sekiya, DPT
Nick is the newest member of Sports Medicine Institute team. He graduated from the University of the Pacific in 04' with a BA in Sports Medicine and in 06' with his Doctorate of Physical Therapy. During college, he played outfield for the University of the Pacific baseball team. Nick is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association and was born and raised in Hawaii.
Kelli Sento BA, PTA, CSCS
Kelli received her bachelors degree in biology from CSUF in 1995. She received her Physical Therapist Assistant degree from Mt. St. Mary's College in 1997. She is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist from the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and a member of the American Physical Therapy Association. Her background experience has been in wound care, and acute care for inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation.
